Read a transcript and check what was said

Platforms: iPhone, iPad and Mac

A transcript is useful because you can come back to the words. But speech recognition can miss a name, confuse a phrase, or struggle when people talk over each other. Check important details against the recording.

Open the transcript

  1. Open Sessions and select the recording you want.
  2. Choose Transcript in the session's content selector.
  3. Read the transcript after processing finishes.
  4. Use the playback controls to listen again when a sentence needs checking.

With VoiceOver, the content selector is named Session content. The transcript is presented in paragraphs so you can move through smaller sections.

Copy the text

  1. In Transcript, open Copy.
  2. Choose Copy text only or Copy with speaker names.
  3. Paste the text where you need it.

Speaker names are useful context, but they still need checking against the conversation.

When a transcript is missing

Read the session's status first. Recording saved means the audio has been saved and is waiting for processing. A model-needed message means transcription needs setup before it can continue.

If the app offers Set Up Transcription, use that control and follow the setup instructions. If it shows Transcription Failed, read the error. Use Retry Transcription when it is offered after you have addressed the problem.

Avoid deleting the session to solve a transcription problem. You may still need its original audio.
