Getting Started
WP OneSignal allows you to send push notifications to your website visitors. Follow these steps to get started:
- Create an account at OneSignal.com.
- Create a new app in your OneSignal dashboard.
- Configure your app settings in OneSignal.
- Copy your App ID and REST API Key.
- Enter these credentials in the WP OneSignal Settings page.

- App ID: Your OneSignal App ID from your OneSignal dashboard.
- REST API Key: Your OneSignal REST API Key for sending notifications.
Notification Settings
- Sound File: The sound file to play when notifications are received (optional).
- New Post Message: Template for notifications when new posts are published.
Sending Notifications
You can send notifications in two ways:
- Automatic Post Notifications
- Notifications are automatically sent when you publish new posts.
- The notification message uses your “New Post Message” template.
- The
{post_title}
placeholder is replaced with your actual post title.
- Manual Notifications
- Navigate to WP OneSignal > Send Notification.
- Enter your notification title and message.
- Add an optional URL for when users click the notification.
- Click Send Notification to deliver your message.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
Notifications Not Sending:
- Verify your App ID and REST API Key are correct.
- Check if your OneSignal account is active.
- Ensure you have subscribers to send notifications to.
Subscription Dialog Not Showing:
- Check if your site is using HTTPS (required for push notifications).
- Verify your browser supports push notifications.
- Check for any JavaScript errors in your browser console.
Best Practices
- Keep notification messages concise and engaging.
- Avoid sending too many notifications to prevent notification fatigue.
- Test notifications with a small segment before sending to all users.
- Use clear calls-to-action in your notification messages.
- Monitor notification analytics in your OneSignal dashboard.
